How to Adopt

1. Get Your Home Ready

Please keep in mind that in order to adopt you will need to have paid all applicable pet deposits (if you rent your home). LCHS will send a letter to your landlord notifying them of the new addition to your home.

LCHS strongly recommends that all current pets be up-to-date on their vaccination records before you adopt and bring home a new pet.

2. Submit an Application

If you are interested in adopting an animal from LCHS please complete the adoption application.
You will also need to submit a copy of your valid driver's license or another form of government issued photo ID.

3. Attend a Counseling Session

Once your application is submitted and approved you will be asked to set up a brief one-on-one counseling session with an adoption counselor.

At this session, you will be provided with all of the necessary paperwork you will need to begin a new chapter of your life with your adopted pet and some basic pet guardianship information.

4. Take Home Your Pet

Please be prepared to take your pet home after your counseling session. Remember to bring a collar/leash/crate, etc.

For the safety of your pet, all cats are required to leave in a carrier and all dogs must leave with a collar.

You may purchase a carrier($5.00) or collar($6.00 or $12.00) at the shelter or bring one with you at the time of adoption.

Remember: Items purchased from LCHS benefit the shelter animals!
