Junkman's Ball

     

The Junkman's Ball will be Friday, April 17 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at the old Steve and Barry's location in the Pepperell Corners shopping center.  This pre-sale for the annual Newspapers in Education Yard sale will support a number of non-profits, including the Lee County Humane Society, within the community.  When you purchase a $10 ticket from the humane society half of the proceeds go to the shelter and the other half benefits Newspapers in Education, which is sponsored by the Opelika-Auburn News. 
     Tickets may also be purchased at the OA News or at the door on the night of the event.  When you purchase your ticket make sure your select LCHS as the charity of your choice!   To purchase tickets through the shelter contact Stacee Strength at stacee@leecountyhumane.org or 334-821-3222.
     The Junkman's Ball is a pre-sale for the Newspapers in Education "World's Largest Yardsale"and also a fun way to support LCHS, visit with friends, dance and shop!  Light refreshments and ice cream will be served.  Auburn Librarian, Eve Kneeland, will be presenting children's stories throughout the evening.  Children's admission is free!

      The Lee County Humane Society will be at the Junkman's Ball on Friday night and also have an informational booth at the yard sale on Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

LCHS receives funds from Petco Tree of Hope

     The year begins on a high note for thousands of animal shelters nationwide, including the Lee County Humane Society, that will receive donations from the 2008 Tree of Hope fund-raiser, hosted by PETCO and the PETCO Foundation.
     The five-week campaign generated $3 million in donations from the company's customers, vendors and associates.  This year, the Lee County Humane Society, received funds donated at the PETCO store at Tigertown in Opelika. 
     Local proceeds from the Tree of Hope 2008 will be used by the Lee County Humane Society to benefit the shelter's general operating fund which supports the animals' food, medical and general welfare needs.
     "Petco and the Petco Foundation show continuous support for our organization and mission to promote responsible companionship and eliminate pet overpopulation.  We are delighted to receive these funds and thank Petco for their genrosity, said Executive Director Heather Meadows.
     "We are so grateful to everyone who contributed and hope they all know they helped to make this world a kinder, safer, and happier place to be for the wonderful animals so near to our hearts," said Petco Foundation Vice President Paul Jolly.  "Tree of Hope has not only helped sustain the lives of animals in need of care and compassion, but also helped nourish the spirit of hope that defines the PETCO foundation."

Birthday Party for LCHS

James and Julia Mclindon recently celebrated their birthday in a special way.  Instead of collecting gifts for themselves James and Julia asked their friends to give them supplies to donate to the Lee County Humane Society.   The Lee County Humane Society thanks James and Julia for their generosity!

Mutt Strut 5-K Race

April 25
     The Lee County Humane Society's annual 5-K race will be held Saturday, April 25, at Kiesel Park.  The race will kick-off Auburn CityFest.  The race will begin at 8:00 a.m.  Day of registration will be from 6:30-7:30 on the 25th. 
     Download Mutt strut registration form here.    The tax-deductible entry fee is $15.00.  Families may register $15.00 for the first member and $10.00 for each additional member.  All participants will receive a prize bag and t-shirt.  

The Lee County Humane Society proudly welcomes AORTA, the Auburn running club, to oversee our race.    AORTA is a long-time supporter of LCHS and we look forward to having them as part of this year's race.

What's Shakin' at LCHS

Shakey's Pizza in Auburn will have a "Funraiser" night benefiting the LCHS Spay/Neuter Facility on Tuesday March 10 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  Join us for a night of food and fun!  Shakey's is located at 2487 E. Glenn Avenue in Auburn.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Pampered Pets Yard Sale for LCHS

     Pampered Pets Boutique will have a charity yard sale benefiting the Lee County Humane Society  on Saturday, March 7 from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.  Items for sale include dogs toys, dog apparel, tools, children & adult clothing, and household items.  Pampered Pets is located at 1306 McCoy Street in Opelika.  The Lee County Humane Society thanks Pampered Pets for their generosity and kindness!

LCHS Welcomes Director of Community Outreach

Director of Community Outreach, Stasia Dunlop, holds Calliope, a medium hair calico.

     In February, Stasia Dunlop joined the Lee County Humane Society staff as the Director of Community Outreach.  In her new position, Stasia will develop, implement, and oversee educational programs for local schools and organizations.  The newly formed Community Outreach Department at the Lee County Humane Society will begin work with a generous grant donated by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
     "There is a lot of information surrounding humane education.  My number one priority will be communicating information about pet overpopulation, the importance of spaying and neutering, and fostering close relationships between people and their pets," Stasia said.  Stasia has been involved with the Lee County Humane Society as a volunteer since May of 2007.  "I love the humane society and think it's an incredibly good organization that does so much for so many," Stasia said.
     Stasia's love for animals began at an early age with her childhood pets. Stasia found her first stray at the age of five. "Smokey" a grey tom cat, gave her a sense of responsibility and companionship at an early age.  "I firmly believe that animals improve our quality of life.  It helps to always have a pet there for you to form a special bond," Stasia said.
     Stasia now has a yellow lab and golden retriever mix, "Cookie".  "'Cookie' got her name because she is the color of a sugar cookie, Now that she is getting older and has grey on her back, she is a sugar cookie with sprinkles," Stasia added.  Stasia and "Cookie" reside in Auburn with Stasia's husband, Danny and their son, Sam.
