About Us

  • The Lee County Humane Society is a 501 (c)(3) organization located in Auburn, AL. Formed in 1974 to rescue stray and unwanted animals in Lee County, the LCHS has grown to provide many services for our citizens. We partner with the cities of Auburn and Opelika as well as Lee County to house stray and unwanted animals. We also provide adoptions services, educational programs and community awareness. The Lee County Humane Society is an open admission facility serving Lee County, AL residents.

Hi, Recently i have been thinking about adopting a dog and i just wanted to know all the steps of adopting a dog. Thanks

Here are the adoption steps. (Listed below) They are posted on the Download an Adoption Application Page that can be found on the right side of our website. Please let me know (stacee@leecountyhumane.org) if you have any more questions about adopting.

Adoption Policy

We will be unable to accept your adoption application and reserve and animal for you unless the following information is submitted:

1.) A copy of your lease agreement with your landlord

2.) A copy og your vet records for your current pet(s)

3.) Driver's license or other form of photo I.D.


Step by Step Adoption Process

In order to ensure that our adoption process is thorough, please allow our staff/volunteers 24hrs to process your adoption application.

Once your application is submitted, you will receive a call within 24hrs to set up an adoption counseling session.

At this session we would like to provide you with all of the necessary paperwork you will need to begin a new chapter of you life with your adopted pet.

Our counseling session typically lasts 30 minutes.

Please be prepared to take your pet home after your counseling session.
