The animals of Lee County lost a true friend on February 28, 2008 with the passing of Nancy Coleman. Nancy was a life-long advocate for animals and became a member of the Lee County Humane Society' Board of Directors in the 1970's, eventually serving as President, helping to lay a foundation for the current board and staff.
The Coleman Family has set up a memorial fund to benefit the Lee County Humane Education Program in Nancy Coleman's memory. The Lee County Humane Education Program aims to promote kindness to animals while working to prevent cruelty, neglect, and abuse. More specifically, the funds raised will aid Junior High School programs, violence intervention (eliminating dog fighting), school programs, and promoting the link between animal neglect and human violence.
