The Lee County Humane Society relies on the support of our volunteers. LCHS has two types of volunteer work available at the shelter.
General Volunteer:
Come in anytime, on their own schedule, from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday- Sunday to help with the following things:
- Help walk dogs
- Play and socialize the dogs
- Hand out treats
- Socialize the cats
- Help make sure water bowls are filled
- Etc.
If time sheets are to be kept up with you can sign in on a sign-in sheet that is available at the shelter or bring your own, but please keep it with the person at the front desk.
Core Volunteers:
Come in anytime, on their own schedule, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. Core volunteers sign in at the front counter. At this time, we ask that no more than ten core volunteers work at a time. Core volunteers are required to go through an hour-long orientation to understand the basic rules at the shelter. Orientations are held the 3rd Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. Core volunteers have more liberties at the shelter than general volunteers. Some of the following things core volunteers are able to do after the orientation are:
- Help with fund-raising events (Wash-N-Wag, Mutt Strut, Woofstock, etc)
- Help with cleaning cages
- Giving Baths
- Off-site adoption events
- Animal Health Assistant
- Transportation
- Animal Behavior Assistant (kennel training, Meet Your Match, etc.)
- Computer Work
- Etc.
Other Volunteer Opportunities:
- Philanthropy Events
- Church Service Projects
- Class Trips
- Tours
- Etc.
If your group plans to bring more than 10 volunteers at one time, please contact our volunteer coordinator. Each volunteer must wear appropriate attire; i.e., closed –toed shoes, clothes that are able to get dirty, no profanity or inappropriate t-shirts, no shorts that are too short. Any volunteer in violation of will be asked to leave the shelter.
